Hello! I’m a Senior Data Scientist on the Elections Insights team at The Washington Post, based in New York.

I come from a Software and Data Engineering background with a focus on developing solutions using Natural Language Processing and Machine Learning. I became a full-time Data Scientist in 2020 while working for the Associated Press, where I contributed to their Elections coverage with models to predict voter turnout. Having worked mostly in R&D, I occasionally publish, but more often, I participate in the peer review process and volunteer with the Association for Computational Linguistics and its various workshops and Special Interest Groups.

I obtained my MS in Computer Science from the State University of New York at Stony Brook in 2008. My thesis was advised by Professor Amanda Stent and described my work in developing a Java-based NLP/Machine Learning tool that aims to help students, both native and non-native speakers of English, improve their writing. You’re welcome to read my thesis.
